We've redecorated the living room and dining room, and plaster boarded both ceilings as they both were artexed, and papered both ceilings as well that was entertaining to say the least.
Fitted new flooring in both rooms.
Biggest job now is a new drive which I'm going to gravel, and when that's all finished house on the market to buy our bungalow

Doing that job is a bit of a pain.
When we had a new kitchen ten years ago, my wife wanted to change the lights to spotlights.
The easiest way was to drop the ceiling by a few inches. So I battened it out plasterboarded it and got a plasterer in to skim it and then I fitted eight spotlights.
Doing it all on my own was a hard. I had a brush on the end of a piece of dowel to trap the plasterboard, while I screwed each piece to the frame.

Still, it looked OK in the end.

I had someone fit the kitchen units.

        P9130058.JPG

But I did the tiling and decorations.

It's a sign of the times. The quality of stuff you buy these days is in my opinion inferior to that of twenty or thirty years ago. Every appliance in these photos which were new (apart from the boiler) has had to be replaced in the last ten years.

The oven, the dishwasher and the new Miele fridge/freezer..all twice!
The new Miele lasted from September last year to February this year.

Even the boiler. That caused me to have to do a bit of "fettling."

        P1000078.JPG

        P1000963.JPG

I had to find a Kitchen company to make a matching door for a ten year old kitchen, so I was lucky. I also had to make the centre bit of the new pelmet detachable so the front of the boiler could be folded down for servicing. Nothings simple, is it?

        P1000962.JPG

I had to make a different shaped slide out fillet that covers the boiler pipework, saving the old tiles, luckily I had saved a few from last time, as it's bigger than the old one. Using that black grout was a bit of a nightmare. I made the fillet in the garage, so it wasn't so bad. It would stain anything.

        P1000788.JPG

We had to lose a top cupboard as we couldn't get a replacement fridge/freezer that would fit, they were either at least 1cm too tall or much shorter. So we settled for a much taller one, lose the top cupboard and make a fillet to fit..... and I had to re-make the boxing in over the top.

Hi @Doghouse Riley, I know what you mean, when we did our kitchen about 5 years ago, Mrs T went to work and then I started ripped out the old one, knocked down the ceiling and all the plaster from the walls. When she arrived home we had no kitchen, ( yes we were fitting a new one) got my mate round who's a sparky to do the electrical work, and I did the rest of the work, Since then the oven is now playing up it either undercooks or incinerates everything, were not changing it.
Just last year the dishwasher started leaking, then the fridge died only had it 4 years, then the washing machine packed in and finally the tumble dryer died. So when we move we have all new appliance's.
For holding up plaster board I invested in a pair of plaster board jacks best £25 I have every spent.
And when we move will possibly have to start all over again

              It's frustrating isn't it?

The jacks seem like a good idea.

The brush taped onto a dowel worked quite well for me as I was able to rest the end on the floor and jam the brush head against the underside of the plasterboard. I wasn't using big lengths of board as I had to buy a size which I could fit in my car, so it wasn't that hard.

The first oven we had was a top of the range Stoves. But it was hard to clean as it had removable roof lining, so impossible to clean, Stoves suggested using a toothbrush! So I gave that away after a year and replaced it with a Baumatic. After five years the glass inner door exploded. So we bought a better Baumatic. They have removable roof linings. That's behaved so far. Our tumble dryer is in the cupboard under the stairs. It never seems to be off as my wife can't manage clothes line due to her MS. This machine was a replacement five years ago.

After the new boiler was fitted, I was faced with this.

My wife was hoping for (another) new kitchen.

              But I like a challenge.

Hi Ian, artex mate can look a nasty piece of work to how it's designed and I suggest double lining your drive before gravel goes down mate.

We're in a bungalow mate and it's the best buy you can do...it's heaven being on one level :)

It's been a funny old day today. It's been stifling hot today so I probably wouldn't have been gardening had I been at home anyway. Today I left home before 8 and didn't return until just before 5. I would rather go out and stay out rather coming in and going out all day.

Firstly I had an interesting mix of paying fares that happened to weave into each other perfectly. Then I took my mum out for lunch as she had to have her dog put down this morning. He was 13 years old and had recently been diagnosed with kidney and liver failure. Last week he suddenly became disoriented and lost his balance frequently. The emergency vet diagnosed a brain thrombosis. The medicine she prescribed wasn't showing any signs of alleviating the symptoms.

We went to a country park and ate lunch overlooking the boating lake. A perfect setting on such a beautiful summer's day. After lunch we had a very short walk to soak in the atmosphere. I had to pick the grandchildren up from school so I stayed with my mum until it was time to move on. Usually my wife and I will take my mum out. Occasionally it's nice just to have the time alone. Especially as we can talk about my wife without her knowing.

I picked the grandchildren up as planned. Their mum wasn't due to be home for the next hour so instead of taking them home I took them to the park. Children should be outside on a day like today. I dropped them off at home about 4.30 and then finally went home. My wife had been out most of the day too so it was probably best for both of us.

About 8pm it had cooled down nicely. I picked up the dog poo and watered everything. I came back to the house to discover my wife had locked me out. It's nice to be missed.

I've nothing on the cards for tomorrow yet.

Hi Jack, perhaps your mom got in first and rang your wife and told her what you'd been saying and that's why she locked you out :roflol:

watching these World Cup dance competitions - these kids are remarkable. Right now it is an English group of young ones. :)

I started watching because my neighbour across the street has a daughter in the competition there :)

I did watch "baby ballroom," series I found that quite entertaining.

Did a bit of ballroom in my early teens, it was a way to meet girls, but became not as necessary when I got my first car.

The sad thing is that aren't enough boys interested in ballroom, so they allow two girls to compete as a couple.

I think the series is presently being repeated on one Freeview channel.
