Your Day (apart from gardening) - what took place?

I have for some reason been receiving notifications on that thread ,I could never work out why because I have never acknowledged or posted on it . Last night I decided to do some ' tidying up ' of my stuff on here and noticed that the alerts on that thread was activated to send me notifcations!!...no idea how or why.

 

Thank you all for advice given, but if you knew what space we had to play with and the costs involved which I might add the company want a min of a grand up front(not) I think that we shall come at this from a different approach. Local plumber to fit all items in situ, and we foot the cost of the items prior to having them fitted. Seems to work out at about the same as what they are asking just to fit those items. A wet room is not going to happen due to my instability on my feet and I do not like the idea of a cold floor. Keeping what we have will at least allow me to have warm feet stepping into the bathroom and out of the shower after. We shall allow you a peak after this has been done. Thanks again.

My step-daughter is currently working in Edinburgh but cannot find a flat to rent. We have offered her a room here but she doesn't want to stay with us as she feels a 30+ woman should not be living at home!. So she is living in Airbnbs or Travelodge Hotels, whatever is available or cheapest on the night. Today I had to pick her up from one Airbnb which she had to vacate by 11:00, bring her here for lunch, and then take her to another Airbnb that was available from 15:00. The poor lassie is frazzled, like a posh bag lady.

Just as an FYI. Some hostels have pretty good rates and most of them have a simple kitchen for people to make a cuppa or boil and egg. They also have laundry rooms and are usually near public transit. You have a locker to secure your items while you are out. Yes, you have to make your own bed but no, they are not dangerous if you're half way smart. And when I stayed at Wombats, the washroom was ensuite and the other ladies were "clean".

 

Sounds very hard, I hope the situation is not too depressing for her.

Some religious and charity establishments can accommodate people who can lend a helping pair of hands for some hours a day. I have stayed in an American Mormon hostel in Amsterdam for a month in exchange of half a day's housework, and in Swedish Parish in Paris for some housework plus putting up IKEA furniture.

Not a permanent solution of course, but probably more pleasant than flickering through AirBnBs. And religion aside, many of these communities are warm hearted and kind and can give great support for people going through one of these challenging periods of life.

Once the Uni is over for the year, there should be better chances of good housing in Edi I hope.

 

She teaches at Herriot Watt University (as well as working online for Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen) so when the term is over her contract finishes. She is off to Chile in September to do fieldwork for the PhD she is currently working on so hopefully she will have better luck there. She is a globe trotter. She was in New Zealand, then went to Hong Kong, then taught in Mainland China, then Taiwan before ending up in Chile. She then came back for a spell tutoring in Glasgow then in London before finally coming home here. Some collection of stamps in her passport.

My back end is so noisy it sounds like baked bean lunch special day at the beer hall! That is the back of my Caravan is loud. So I'm off this morning to get my exhaust system checked and repaired.

And then I will finally be picking up the wire I had gabbed about a few months back and I can start rearranging the solar panels. I don't think I'll be able to bury the wires for another month or so but I can lay them out where I want them to be installed. I'm also going to try something a bit different in that I will make the panels do double duty and then have the batteries take on new tasks. Lots and lots of playing with power and this should keep me busy on and off for a month or so.

 

My plan for today was to empty No.2 Compost Bin, but as it was raining I went into town to buy Easter Eggs for my Daughter & Grandaughter.....Wearing a Mask in Wilko of course

 

My brother's 60th birthday coming up later this month. This is the card I've got him - a little non traditional - but hey that's what we are ...

 

I've been waiting most of the afternoon for a BG Engineer to fix a water leak on my boiler. Sods Law it stopped before he arrived!
He couldn't find a leak and said it could have be rain coming through the flue, strange that I had to topped up the water to the boiler

 

I have to agree with Anne. How about requiring cyclists to have insurance and some kind of tax for up keep of the roads. Even better - a tax for the creation and maintenance of cycle paths.

A Tory politician is calling for a ban on using mobiles while on a bicycle or e-scooter, after a concerning incident with a cyclist near Parliament.

 

Online shopping. Bought a new suitcase for the price of 10 drops of blood (we take part in ONS Covid survey and get generous vouchers every month ), whisked out my own cash and got replacement hiking shoes (easy, I always buy the same ones) and new hiking trousers (hard, too many options). The spring sun shines through the most worn bits of my old pair in a rather awkward manner.

Now it's time to relax and culture myself by reading Enid Blyton's Adventure series (I'm at part 6, Ship of Adventure). Blyton's books always make me hungry because the kids are eating all the time, half a baked ham, various sandwiches, fruit cake, ginger beer and of course tinned pineapple for Kiki
