I have used cold water occasionally. It depends on the fabric that is being washed as to what temperature I use. Over here, if you choose cold wash/cold rinse, the machine simply accesses the cold water line only so it is much colder in the winter and still pretty cold at other times of the year. This is town water, not a well.

I never use cold on whites that have cotton content. I only use warm/hot because I need to add a dash of bleach and unless it is a swimming pool, I find bleach works best in warm surroundings. My washer has a water heater in it but it only uses it to maintain or raise the water to warm/hot when those are selected so I always run the tap water nearby (into a watering can) until the temperature goes up and then the machine fills right from the start with warm and no further heating is require. My water heater is natural gas and far more economical than an electric one.

The biggest savings, in my opinion, are when you don't use the dryer.

I use hot water in my Drumi too when doing stuff with stubborn stains.

      Hi,

I often do cold water washing usually whilst wearing the clothes; it rains so much here in Yorkshire I get plenty of soakings; my clothes though don't usually shrink as they dry out.

We too have a very basic Beko washing machine that's been brilliant for over ten years and still going strong; our tumble dryer is used all year round even during summer; we've reached the age that we can't take the money with us so we don't skimp any longer.

My day; well a strange one. Friday & Saturday I relaid heavy paving flags finishing yesterday dinner time pleased this job was at last sorted and behind me allowing my at last to enjoy a bit of freedom in the studio.

This afternoon I'd just settled into the studio with a mug of tea and started a violin practice when my wife came to me looking very worried indeed. Our neighbour was here asking if we knew where her cat Dudley could be; she could hear Dudley crying and thought he might be locked into our garage so down to the garage I went and from the garage there is access to under the bungalow so I checked but no Dudley; outside again where's the crying coming from; it sounded under our feet so on with my work clothes and once again lift a heavy flag to see Dudley staring at us looking terrified.

Under the flags is hollow for water drainage after all we get plenty of water; Dudley must have quiety climbed in yesterday dinnertime as I lay the last flag entombing him. I felt sickened for the little lad because I'll never hurt anything or anybody but everyone including Dudley was now happy; I couldn't face laying the flag this afternoon so just got everything ready and I'll complete the job tomorrow but this time I'll check for cats.

I'm still dreaming of a peaceful violin practice but all the 35 years of living here the last 21 years in retirement there's no peace to be had; in this instance I'm delighted Dudley isn't hurt but tomorrow is just another day of hard graft; will it ever let up.

      Flags June 2022_0002_01.JPG
It was an horrible job; here I'd had to cut a way in and once in I was forever prodded with the shrubs then after the flags were completed I shredded all the brash; good job I'm built like a stick insect.
      Flags June 2022_0003.JPG
Not good workmanship at all by the builders; here's one of the flags lifted showing the drainage channels; with cotoneaster climbing up the bungalow side and hedge the other side it was dangerous trying to move these heavy flags.
      Flags June 2022_0003_01.JPG
To make the job a whole lot more difficult the iron rainings are bolted to the flags; 35 years of hard graft living here and no let up; tomorrow is just a continuation.

      Kind regards, Colin.

Well, a few weeks ago when I started my weight loss I was horrified to discover that I was even heavier than I thought, 17st 1lb! :yikes: But after 2 months of cutting calories, some long walks and a few trail runs, things are looking much better! According to the NHS height/weight chart I need to get down to around 15st 4-5lb to be classed as overweight rather than obese, so my next aim is to lose about 10lbs. That will mean I can safely add road running to my mix of weight-loss activities, unfortunately I daren't do it ATM because running on the road and pavement can sometimes have a negative impact on my shins. But being lighter should sort that problem out, too! :)

Thanks for the encouragement, @Upsydaisy! :) Progress should be even more rapid now as I've had some antibiotics for an ingrown toenail infection, which has made running pain-free again!

After a morning in the garden being blown about and developing a headache I decided to call it a day. So after lunch I decided to walk over to visit my sister for a good old natter and we put the world to rights.:coffee:

Good going! I got pretty heavy years ago and know what I a battle it is to shed the excess. I won't go into details but let's just say, I would have needed a periscope to get that picture.

I have fluctuated a little but my scales are good at scolding me so I don't stray more than a stone from my "goal".

I am sorting out renewing my Passport which can be done on-line now. Also you can do your own digital photo and upload too or go to a photographer, which is probably what we will do as they only charge a fiver for four photos ... or did before they had to put a code on it. I haven't used my Passport since 2006 but my ten years runs out in a month.

I got away without having my photo taken in April for renewal of my Driving License as my picture was only nine years old and ten is the magic number.

Meeting a friend for lunch today, we've been friends since our senior school days...must be 56 years now!

We're having lunch at the pub at the end of my lane. It's 300 years old and has a lovely garden , which we will sit out in to chat and eat.

We usually meet up, with another friend as well, at Christmas so it will be nice to relax in the warm sunshine together.

Amongst it's customers are a few famous names..Wayne and Frankie Bridges , Katie Price, Nick Knowles, Sean Bean, snooker player Jimmy White, Matt le Tissier...

We will , as we always do, undoubtedly look back and fondly recall all the mischievous things we got up to. Great fun.......how did we grow up so quick and start behaving like responsible adults!!.:heehee:

I went down Dungeness this morning to the fish shop and stocked up the freezer to some extent, but the prices are higher now so I bought less than usual.
Had a quick walk down the beach where I used to take the dog,the tide was way out, a kite surfer told me it was a 20 minute walk.

Stopped off along the way to buy some local cherries and some local spuds

Got a large piece of hot smoked salmon with new potatoes and salad for dinner tonight. :)
