My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the film, beautiful scenery too. We were surprised to see how full the cinema was, compared to the usual handful !!

Had an afternoon visitng and enjoying my favourite city , out of our 2 local ones, seeing it through the eyes of the many tourists that visit it. No shopping or any other mundane tasks were involved...just chilling out and enjoying it in its full glory.

To make it really relaxing we went by bus as parking is usually a nightmare.

So this is the walk back home from the bustop

I have been a weeny bit naughty. We have a new cable installed in our street and enthusiastic young people have been knocking on the door to inform me I can now have a much better deal with my BT broadband.

So today I bit the bullet and opened a chat with BT (I'm useless on the phone). Suman, the friendly advisor, indeed found me a deal with faster speed and £5 less I pay now. The I asked if he can send me over any comparisons as three.co.uk I'm checking at the moment seems to be offering similar services with a considerably lower price.

After consulting his "Value Team", Suman found me an offer for the pack we had agreed on with a further £3 discount, or a whee-look-at-me-go - speed upgrade with the agreed price.

Great, we agreed on the extra perk. I read through the agreement and wondered why, whilst everything else is free (including an engineer visit), the new bit of hardware has a £9.99 delivery fee. Nowadays, delivery fees is not something I'm used to.

Apparently Suman got my intentions right away and without consulting the Value Team made a note to waive it off from my bill.

Less money out from my bank account, better service and an overall feeling I got a freebie

Apparently something, apart from the hot flushes, happens when one turns fifty. :heehee:

These were just delivered and I can almost walk in them, at least when The Superchild reminds me to hold the handrail firmly.

I'm childlishly pleased with my purchase, totally unnecessary and silly, just what I needed. Oh yes, and for free as I had gift vouchers to cover the cost.

My step-daughter visited today. Her mum was delighted to see her. She is off to Chile for six months at the end of September, to do research work for her PhD.

Had a little wander around one of the nearby reservoirs. Cod Beck in North Yorkshire. It's not our nearest but when planning the walk out I had a horrid thought. There's fires breaking out everywhere round our way at the moment. Thankfully nothing on the scale of what we see in the news, but the reservoir walk we had planned to do takes us up into open moorland, and there's a stretch where for a good couple of miles you're kind of sandwiched between the reservoir and miles of bone dry heather, so I didn't fancy it. Cod Beck on the other hand is not that big, and is surrounded by woodland so probably less of a fire risk. The reservoir is surprisingly full today, although the streams running into it are barely a trickle.

We took a lovely walk yesterday, practically in our back yard. A quick bus hop to Backworth Hall set the mood, there was a bunch of happy elderly men playing croquet in the side lawn, a bunch of equally happy looking (probably associated) ladies sipping tea and drinks and young men in their whites playing cricket. How much more British can a sunny Saturday get? :)

Then we aimed our noses towards the sea and walked three hours across horsed paddocks, fields, lanes and Earsdon village and miraculously plopped out just where planned, Whitley Bay.

Whitley Bay has a lovely, touristy feeling. It was a joy to sit in the pub terrace, people watching and admiring the odd mist going on and off over the sea. We shared a single serving of mixed grill, which consisted of a steak, half a chicken breast, slice of gammon, two sausages, and in order to ensure that patrons are not deprived of protein, a fried egg. No-one leaves the table hungry up here

Stunning view from our table. The talented street musician is just visible behind the bin :heehee:

                          Whitley2.jpg

OK, slightly better with St Mary's lighthouse before it was swallowed by the mist.

                          Whitley1.jpg

Today we are heading for a Christmas present, namely Prosecco tea at Baltic, the modern art gallery. There is a dress code and everything, how very posh! (I'll scrub my nails, promise! )
