No gardening here today due to the strong winds. Instead I hoovered and tidied up the outbuilding where we go with the dogs every night. At this time of year theres a lot of dried mud from the dogs and dust from the fire.

I washed the filters from the vacs and they were filthy !

I may get a bit more suction next time I use them

@Upsydaisy We had a holiday up in the Orkneys many years ago and loved the place and the people.Even met a man who owned a craft shop that we got chatting to and he had exactly the same name and surname as my boss back home.Only thing I would miss going up there is trees as they are in short supply up there, well they were in the eighties and when we came off the island two weeks later realised how much we take trees for granted.I think there are a few blogs on the net of people living up on the Orkneys.Kirkwall is a lovely place as well:biggrin:

Beginning to dislike our village as in the winter months because if we have to go out for our walk of an evening instead of during the day the air stinks of peoples wood burners and I struggle to breath.I think some of them need to have their chimneys swept:eeew:. I would move tomorrow if I had my way but I expect we shall be stuck here forever:sad:

Hi @Kandy , yes I did notice a lack of trees and yes I think I would miss them as we are surrounded by them down here. On the plus side there wouldn't be much to rake up in the winter!!:heehee:

I was having a browse online around Kirkwall, it looks great.

We live in a lovely rural area so I shouldn't grumble and we are near the family and our kids are only up in London. But I do dream of somewhere completely different at times ...but could we actually do it...I very much doubt it.

Totally know what you mean in regards to wood burners, they are said to be very polluting!:campfire:

I expect it will be calculated once it's deemed in a fit state to serve it purpose. I think as it stands at the moment it not taxable ...maybe:dunno:

@Upsydaisy that is interesting. Our property tax is based on the last assessment done by the town. Then when permits/improvements are done to jncrease the value of the property, they're happy to raise your rate ..

I'm waiting for a client to come by with her fabric and then I finish the backyard shoveling. I can't hear the doorbell out back so that's why I have to wait.

The sun is lovely out there so should be a pleasant time once I get out there. hurry up lady!!!

@Upsydaisy The property looks nice but shame that the trees are so close to it as they will be blocking out a lot of the light and the roots might be causing a problem with the house foundations.

I am not sure how the council tax system works up in Scotland and the Isles so not sure how it will be rated.Would make a good home for someone that wants a challenge and has the time and money to turn it into a nice family home.

I see you are down in Hampshire. We spent a pleasant two weeks staying in Brockenhurst and I enjoyed the fact that the ponies, donkeys, cows etc have right away on the roads so at least most of the time it slows the traffic down a bit:biggrin:
