Your Day (apart from gardening) - what took place?

Sounds like a lovely display.

I spent a good part of my day playing board games with one granddaughter. She had never played checkers before so I wanted to teach her the game and get a bit of practice in so the next time we have a sleepover, she and her cousin who already knows the game, can play together without too much of a difference in their playing levels.

I also made some strawberry ice cream and some more espresso ice cream. Nice to enjoy on a hot day

 

Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts, been with my sister today shared lots of hugs and tears, I'd forgotten how sensitive dogs are on these occasions, they really understand don't they.

 

I just went back a page and read about this terrible loss of a young one.

I have always felt that life would be so much more fair if everyone died an orphan. The impact of losing a young one is like none other.

@mazambo I send you my heartfelt sympathy.

Can you tell by the general sense of chaos in the kitchen who’s “chef” today?!

 

I see you keep him barefoot when in the kitchen Looks like lots of fun and a great space to work in

 

The first thing he does when he gets home from work is sit at the bottom of the stairs (with the dog demanding cuddles), to take his shoes and socks off, before walking around the garden barefoot....

 

That sounds very familiar here too Sian but it's me that's barefoot.Hubby wouldn't dream of walking barefoot round the garden...we keep chickens and even though after all these years he's still not mastered the art of 'Hopscotching' AKA 'dodging the chicken poo'..

 

As it was too wet to do anything in the garden, I kept myself busy. So I messed around with my leccy piano. I don't play it that often. Sometimes not for several days, same with my tenor sax. "So much to do, so little time."

I often record films on TV, to watch later. Sometimes I'll hear a really old tune in one, that I like. This was the case last night. This classic standard was featured in a very recently made TV rom/com film. It was played by a band in a romantic scene. I realised I'd the music somewhere in a collection and having never played it before, decide I had to learn to play it. So I stopped the film and looked for the music through several sheet music albums then and there and stuck it on the piano, in case I forgot about it. Then went back and watched the rest of the film.

So this morning I taught myself to play it.

It's a 1936 Jerome Kern song which has been recorded by the "World and his wife" and has become a popular jazz standard,

I'm fascinated by the number of choir voices on my Tyros 5 and find excuses to use them.
I've bunged in a few jazz chords.

I'm just glancing through the window at my gardens today. I had filled all the cap receptacles in the greenhouses last night and right now I am watching mother nature's gift of free water feeding everything outside and we really needed a good soaking

It's a good day to stay inside to play. Am copying some sewing patterns onto plastic before using them to cut fabric for some clothes I'm making for this fall. Heavens, did I just say that f word out loud?

 

Going for a walk in a little while with my daughter and grandson to have a look at the local horticultural show.

 

Very off topic @Sian in Belgium , but can I have your kitchen please? That's just what I want, light, white, drawers instead of cupboards and plenty of nice stuff on the worktop.

 

@Selleri I have a kitchen with 20 feet of marble counters (but I have white cupboards) with a peninsula under display cabinets .. it takes a lot to keep clean ... in my case, especially if T'other Half has been in it! It goes 3 cupboards more to the right of cooker. It seemed like a good idea 20 years ago. Must get in there and sort things out as he has been in there lately!.
