Crikey - I was kinda expecting a lot more crap than we got. It would appear that we're a discerning bunch on this forum :blue thumb:
    I had forgotten all about
    • A Peculiar Practice
    • Callan
    • Hancocks Half Hour
    • Magic Roundabout
    • When the Boat Comes In
    • Rising Damp
    • Porridge
    • Red dwarf
    • Mork and Mindy
    • Blackadder
    • Yes, Minister/Prime Minister
Anyone remember the House Of Cards trilogy? Another classic that our friends across the water thought they could do better and failed.

Now you've strayed into radio! I love all the above and also
    • The Paul Temple mysteries (the original recordings, not the remakes). Classic lines such as "Now now Steve (Pauls wife was called Steve), don't you worry your pretty little head with things like that" are the stuff of legend!
    • The Corrupted.
    • Sons and Brothers
    • Journey Into Space
    • Tracks
    • The Whimsey adaptations (starring Ian Carmichael)
    • Bleak Expectations
    I'll change the title!

Yes you have dear, you've just forgotten :old:

I forget a lot of things nowadays :old: - even what you were referring to! :snorky:

I still remember Paul Temple and Steve very well but wasn't able to listen to the earlier editions as we couldn't get them in London. They didn't go national until the mid 40s. I can still hear the intro music of Coronation Scot.

Journey Into Space was a classic (I remember when Alfie Bass took over the role of Lemmy from David Kossof)

You missed out the superb series of Dick Barton - Special Agent that ran for years until replaced by that horrible series - The Archers!

This was a show from the nineties, most of the stars went on to greater things.

The "ugly duckling" Lacy Chabert, top right blossomed as she got older.

I forgot to include Black Adder (all), Yes Minister, the Fast Show and Goodness Gracious Me.

The only (historical/period) dramas I have watched over the last 30 years were Sharpe and the recent Last Kingdom but that was a major disappointment due to altering most of the characters and plots in the books.

If we're doing radio, I've over 150 Goon Shows on mp3.
Part of the appeal for me were the two musical interludes in a half hour show.

One by the Dutch jazz harmonica player, (he was Dutch, I don't know where he bought the harmonica)
              Max Geldray (1916 – 2004)

And the Ray Ellington Quartet. He is/was the father of Lance Ellington, who often sings with the Strictly band on BBC TV.

When you consider the usual music choices of those who ran the BBC, the music in this show was well ahead of its time.

The other favourite was "Round the Horne." With Kenneth Horne and Kenneth Williams, "Julian and his friend Sandy."
A lot of use of Polari in the sketches which escaped the comprehension of the BBC's censors.

I've a few of these programmes too.

Alfie Bass, only remember him from an old programme called Bootsy and Snudge.
I think it had somebody called Bill Frazer in it along with, Mr Jones, (Clive Dunn), from Dad's Army.

The only thing I can remember about Paul Temple was the music.

                  The Coronation Scot.

And the occasional last word of an episode, from his wife Steve.
A rather tremulous "Paul...." intended as a "cliff hanger."

I remember that well and also liked Ray Ellington and Max Geldray.

You left out 'ITMA' (stood for 'It's That Man Again' - referring to Hitler) featuring Tommy Handley - anyone remember that programme? :) It ran through the war and continued for, I think, at least five years afterwards and only ended because Tommy died suddenly. It featured lots of peculiar/silly characters (some moved into the Goon Show) including the 'Minister of Aggravation and Mysteries'.
