Good post, Pete. Only thing I'd change is that they will be listened to. For sure!

And Hornbeam, if you don't like the rules, debate in the appropriate thread and get them changed. As Pete said, they're not cast in stone.

I thought that this was "the appropriate thread", MD. Is there another? [IMG]

Pete, As I understand it the new "Creative Photo Competition" (as opposed to anything that goes on in Creative Computer Art) has been set up to allow folk to experiment with computerised enhancement of of images without getting into full digitised graphics. All of the images that have been posted in this category have been "played around with", and that as I understand it is what it is about - Enhancement of a single image (which may involve multiple layers of the SAME image). Regardless of the amount or type of enhancement employed, it still needs a well composed or interesting subject as a starting point - silk purses/sows ears!

The original photo competition is limited to "off the camera" photos with no enhancement and establishes a playing field that is about as level as one can create given the variety of cameras in use. I've certainly not spotted any photos in this category that have been enhanced and any I have submitted have been untouched apart from cropping thiugh my submissions to the "creative" category have been "played about with" within the boundaries set for the competition.

In essence there are now two opportunities for us to exercise and develop photographic skills. One for purely photographic attempts and another that adds just a little bit more creativity.

Personally I really enjoy the challenge of both competitions as they make me think about my photography and go out and seek suitable subjects and I'm grateful to Marley for taking on the pretty thankless and impossible task of trying to managing something that pleases everybody all of the time.

I think that about sums it up, Dave - in my understanding of it anyway.

    BTW, Hornbeam, didn't you say....

"I have no more to say on this matter. I shall drop in from time to time and stick to the gardening threads of GC."

I suggest you do that, unless you can be more positive.

That is not the way to improve things dendo. I have no more to say on the matter. I was confused by MD's suggestion that I was on the wrong thread. That's all. G'night.

Did you know that the banana plant is not a tree, it is actually the world's largest herb!

That's a very interesting fact, BM! IS it of much relevance to the thread, though? Although maybe my comment wasn't either - sorry people, but I won't be removing it.

Sheesh - I miss a couple of days and come back to this.

So we have two competitions - one for straight unenhanced pictures, and one for enhanced/creative pictures - both taken this month, and both single pictures (helps those with slower puters). I like that idea and I shall enjoy seeing the pictures in both, and contribute to both when I can.

Can we now let it run and then review if necassary at the end of a couple of months. It may be that the thread on creative pictures is sufficient and a competition is not going to work well, or it may be that use of more than one picture is preferred - or taken at any time - or whatever. Prolly the best way to conduct that debate is a poll - to keep it "cool"

I will now get on with enjoying this forum, as I always do.

I thought a picture of beautiful banana might bring about calm :D

Interestingly enough according to a recent survey undertaken by MIND among people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

I think we should all eat more bananas [IMG]

More information about the benefits of bananas can be found here.

Who has said they are not participating, apart from Wildflower and yourself on the forum ?

Or has this been done through the PM system ???

Sorry if it has been mentioned on the forum, but with so many threads, I do not get to read them all [IMG]

WF until a third competition is proposed and discussed, why don't you have a go at just playing with one photo. Im sure you would make a good job despite you concerns over constraint. Can't help thinking you are cutting your nose off ? ooo an idea for a photo ! you can have that for free [IMG]

I all seriousness just have a go. Creative Art doesn't define WF, does it? surley if you could accept the previous rules aren't you getting a bit over excited about something which is easily sorted with trial and error. Regardless of the rights and wrongs, I would like to think GC is free of blame culture.

Going forward I have to say your the way you are trying to 'own' and 'defend' creative art is unecessary. I am not a fan of this 'them and us' attitude against the moderators. Creative art is for everyone and we all have our views on how it should be made competitive. Please contribute to this thread in a positive way so we can get a concensus and establish something which everyone can enjoy. [IMG]

Any positive suggestions won't be removed :D
