The situation is now in its current postion because we wanted it soon, and the Mods gave it to us soon - with the proviso that we could let the mods know our suggestions about improving it, on a suck it and see basis.

I fail to see why we should blame anyone for that, nor why we can't do exactly as is suggested, and use this thread to add our suggestions, exactly as has been suggested.

And now, can we forget the past, and get on with the present and the future, post entries to the competitions, abide by the rules, and suggest any changes we would like to see......

I see there are lots of very nice entries in both competitions - well done everyone! :D

Oh - and in case anyone is thinking it, I have no desire whatsoever to do the thankless job of modding.... Well done to all those who do it, a thankless task, it seems...

My suggestion was intended to be positive and was not about past mistakes Dendo. I'm hoping that lessons might be learned. You say that "we wanted it soon and the Mods gave it to us soon" Yes - at the expense of deeply offending at least six long standing menbers who were some of our best photographers and three were recent competition winners.

The rules have now been changed so many times, I doubt if anyone understands them. Sure - let's put the past behind us. But in moving on, let the lessons be learned lest they be repeated. A little time in preparation, a little more thought and consideration will take people with you and a repeat of this unpleasantness can be avoided. Its not pleasant to post your entries and then be told to withdraw them because they break the rules. No one broke the rules on purpose - they just didn't understand them properly.

    Ahh Hindsight. [IMG]

I think that the photo competition should be.

    'The Enhanced Photo Competition'

I would say more but frankly I am bored of the continuing senseless efforts to justify a disgraceful display behaviour towards a well respected member of GC. [IMG]

    ------------------------------------------------
    ^^^^^^^^A line drawn under it.

Going forward I think I would keep the name 'photo' rather than 'picture', clarified by the term 'enhanced'. 'Picture' could be confused with the former creative art expectations, which I feel are better suited to an entirely different competition, with a whole different set of criteria/standard for entry.

Well, I'm a bit too old for Altered Images and not my style anyway, but I do like the late-night COPS programme and the music is to die for ...

I'm happy with any of the above suggestions - but like the more whimsical ones most! I think the key is that it must be clearly different, so people know easily which competition they're going for with any one picture.

Agree particularly that "photo" rather than "picture" is appropriate, as that leaves the door open to have the creative art aspect, with all its ramifications, have a competition of its own, if that's wanted.

Good evening all...I would just like to say regarding Creative Art Comp.............
I am happy to abide by the present rules of the competition, and if they are altered,I will abide accordingly...I cant see the problem,we need guidelines....somebody has to make the guidlines, and as has been said before,we all have different ideas,I don't envy Marley but with respect Hornbeam, this site or this competition does not revolve around you,as much as you would like it to.

Its not about me Roders - I am not participating in any comps. Quite agree with you BM "disgraceful display behaviour towards a well respected member of GC" caused her to resign her membership.

Maybe to make it absolutely clear to newbies et al. BM suggestion of the Enhanced Photo of the Month Competition is the most straight forward.

I agree that using the word photo makes clearer that it is one photograph

As I was looking through the photos just now, it occurred to me that it would be nice to see the original of the photo too. Would this be possible or practical?

If we did this, how would we do it? Put the original in the same post?

It was looking at yours, MF, that got me thinking, trying to work out what the orignal must have looke like.....
