    @longk - nail, head....

John Smith was the best Prime Minister this country never had, God rest his soul. Sadly, it seems that there are less and less of us that approach the voting process with a modicum of thought and intelligence (somewhat oddly, a very high proportion, if not all, GC members seem to be in the minority who apply thought and intelligence!) - nowadays, it is simply about who is liked more.... Boris Johnson only made it into office because he was funny, quirky and was a known face from the likes of 'Have I Got News For You'

Tony Blair got in mostly because he came across as a nice guy; David Cameron and Nick Clegg only did as well as they did because they came across as nice guys. BUT, underneath all that things have been getting steadily worse and for those who may not have sufficient time or interest to approach politics with their 'thinking head' on, they are now essentially reduced to vote for who they like the most, or more accurately, who is the 'least worst'; couple that with those who are solely out to cast a vote to 'kick some ass' and the net result is where we are now.

Democracy and capitalism are not the panacea that they were touted to be - for the record, socialism is no better; what is needed is a blend of the two, brought to us by people who are straight talkers and not out to feather their own nests. Sadly, this is never going to happen.

KKK are doing a peaceful fire burning celebration for Trump in the middle of a corn field. Where the liberals are protesting on streets, setting sidewalk trash cans on fire, and destroying some stores because hillary did not make it.

Yes, well the KKK are well known as a none extremist, none racial, peace loving organisation, they're just setting a good example as they always do, redstar.

But now. Media reports that the protestors are paid people, bussed in to do damage.

This will be my last post regarding the SNP on GC, it is after all predominately a gardening website, I will never mention them again (the SNP supporters on here will be pleased about that:) ) and I apologise for mentioning them in this post as after all it was originally started about the USA.
I would just like to make it crystal clear as to why I am so against the SNP being hell bent, to the detriment of running our country, on Independence for Scotland from a personal point of view.
I doubt those who live south of the border have any real idea as to just how ghastly things were both pre the referendum and still are thanks to the SNP 's refusal to accept the vote of the Scottish people and consequently do b all other than shout about having another referendum, completely reneging on their once in a lifetime pledge re the vote. Until about 5 years ago I was less than interested in politics and went with the flow be that for or against what suited my family and I. We live in a democracy after all.....well I thought we did!
I am of Scottish parents, born and educated in England but chose like my parents and siblings to move back to Scotland over 40 years ago.
I was living in Scotland when we had an Independence referendum back in the 70s, There was canvassing on both sides with no viciousness that I was aware of, vote taken, it was a no from the majority and we all then got on with our lives.
Move onto 2014 for the next referendum. Completely different. I was physically threatened and bullied in MY OWN GARDEN by an uninvited yes voter canvasser. I had to say I was calling the police before this sh!te would remove itself. I had been polite but said I was voting no, this evidently was not acceptable to this person and they were a paid up member of the SNP party (they proudly told me this). He eventually left but not before he threatened me that they would let all his cronies know we were no voters and his parting remark was "Hope your horse is insured, be a pity if it got out and got hit by a car"...nice. Many of the no vote posters around the area I live in were torn down, my best friend had her windows smashed because she "stupidly" had put a no vote sticker in her window of her house. The whole period pre the referendum reminded me of only 1 thing.... The Nazy Party and no wonder the pollsters got it wrong, us no voters were AFRAID to say we were voting no. We were and are still are accused of not being patriotic by the SNP and their supporters because we don't support Independence from the rest of the UK.
I worked all my adult life, paid taxes due and plenty of council tax! never claimed unemployment or any other benefit. I have contributed to and promoted Scotland by running my own business selling Smoked Scottish Salmon NOT Scottish Smoked Salmon, (there is a difference!) all over the world including the USA yet am still considered unpatriotic because I chose to be British and Scottish.
I am beginning to feel a foreigner in my own country. If things don't improve then we will move (have no desire to do so) over the border and take our hard earned wealth with us. I will not leave 1 bawbee to the SNP , that would make me whirl in my grave!:) To some, who contribute on here's amazement, I'm disappointed we lost the match tonight but congratulations to England. Having been a professional sportswoman I know when to congratulate a winning side be that on the sports field or in a referendum.

The USA is not alone in this. Students from Stirling University were paid to be bused over to the other side of Glasgow to disrupt a hunt some years back. Laid a false trail for the hounds to follow onto a railway line, 6 hounds killed as a result, such caring folk. 1 fox run over and killed by the mini van transporting the students back to their university, somewhat ironic. I am not a hunt supporter by the way.

.................An isolated story and disturbing one at that but thats not representative of a whole country or peoples surely. I personally never experienced any nastiness during the referendum despite the neighbourhood being mixed 50-50 Scots-English .

You seem determined to show Scotland in a bad light and as a country thats riddled with political intolerance and violence, and on a gardening forum of all places. If you hate the local people and country that much why not just move to another part of Scotland or just leave it altogether.

As you well know the Brexit vote changed things and thats why the SNP are toying with their referendum again. A party that was created to fight for independence is always going to try and seek independence unsurprisingly. They will loose it again of course.

Edinburgh is booming and has a very high non Scots population and must be one of the most cosmopolitan parts of Britain. Where I live the population is split roughly 50-50 Scots/English so living and working here cant be as grim as you try to make it look.

I agree with @silu, to take this away from the USA thread
So the rest of the UK knows, This is the SNP Scottish NATIONALIST Party

The then leader of SNP Alex Salmond, and his team went around schools and Uni's enlightening them to Politics
He then announced there was to be a Referendum on Scottish Independence, a ONCE IN A LIFE TIME Referendum
They announced a referendum and then immediately reduced the voting age to 16

The once in a lifetime referendum was arranged with the lower voting age, within a population of 6.5 million people, 1.5 million were underage or not entitled to vote leaving 4.6 million to vote
1.6 million voted Yes Independence, 2 million voted NO and 1 million did not vote
so the result of the Once in a Lifetime referendum was Yes 1.6m NO 3 million and 1.5 not entitled

Crystal nicht had nothing on this lot, "No" voters with stickers in windows or signs on farms, the signs were burnt down, windows of NO voters were smashed, threats made and families are broken up forever, Mums and Dads voted NO, sons and daughters voted yes, neighbours and friends of long standing are no longer friends, venom and hate exists in the neighbourhood,
families do not speak to each other My BIL had the gaull to break bread in my house, spend many weeks free for food and shelter, and to be honest I do no longer trust my WIFE who thinks the shite is a $EITY (I have spoken of this POS before, Eat all Drink all Pay Nowt)

They lost the Once in a Lifetime Independence vote by 3 million, but they will not let it go, they want another one
Alex Someone quit and his Second Lieutenant took over Her Sturgeon
The SNP as an elected Government have done nothing, other than preach another referendum Gnasher Sturgeon had a dream when she was a teenager, and she wants the dream fulfilled Done nothing for Scotland, no education, no healthcare, no child care, no taxes no nothing

Well I had a dream as a teenager and Raquel Welch has never come across with to goods either, so I just settled for Fiona Richmond :-)

If I can get a reasonable price I will close my company and return to England, just feel sorry for the employee's, but needs must

So bye, sorry to hijack the thread

EDIT figures are short as I did not count other than the millions and rounded up the 100,000's, I added the not voters to the NO voters as IF they really had an interest in independence they would have made the effort to vote
