Personally, it's the bits in between the pauses which I find most annoying Pete. All of them.

It's hard to believe:rolleyespink: but it just might be that Trumps wins. Bet the FBI budget gets doubled if he does. I, like most on here am less than taken with either of them to be honest altho it would give me a smidgen of satisfaction if Donald gets in as that would put our "beloved" Mr Salmond's gas a peep. He was all for trying to ban Donald from coming to Scotland despite him having put millions into the Scottish economy. He and Donald crossed swords and some at a meeting about wind turbines being erected right in full view of Donald's new golf course...Donald NOT impressed. ( I actually know the person who is a wind farm expert and anti who was employed by Donald to fight his corner during the heated meeting).
If Donald becomes president he might ban Alex from entering America:heehee: where he spends a fair amount of time these days making loadsa money lecturing on his favourite subject......himself and how wonderful he is!

During my recent visit to New Orleans, I discovered that a lot of the voters are simply tired of the status quo and just want a change and they see Trump as a means to this end.

A bunch here in Canada just wanted change and look what happened to us - we've got Prime Minister Selfie who is now going to burden us with more taxes, including a carbon tax!

that old saying "be care what you wish for" really is a double edged sword here ..

Seems like shooting yourself in the foot is the done thing for democratic countries these days. Possibly due to the apathy of our political systems.
UK got Brexit - to the rest of the worlds amazement.
Canada got Justin "totally hip and correct" Trudeau
USA , will they get Trump ?

Mainstream politicians only have themselves to blame, the whole world is totally fed up with PC, gutless, spineless, dithering politicians, poncing around just filling their own pockets and doing very little as regards standing up for the people of their respective countries.

I agree, Pete. But to honest, the World. meaning Joe Public, is just as pathetic and showing a lack of brains by giving the extremists or just plain incompetent idiots a chance to get political power.............talk about shooting oneself in the foot and jumping into a fire at the same time:dunno::wallbanging::heehee:

I think its what's know as a "protest vote", lets face it, how else does Joe Public put over his point of view in a "so called" democracy, all elections these days, in the west, seem to have people voting for the candidate they least hate.
They should be voting for the one they "like" , but that doesn't happen anymore.

I guess we actually know more than we used to, and now realise all politicians are basically in it for themselves, so "Joe Public" might have a lack of brains, but even those that do have a bit of brain find it hard to not go for the protest vote, until something better comes along.

To be fair @ARMANDII - as I have said before on here, the choices open to us as voters are akin to being asked to choose whether you would like to gouge your own eyes out with a spoon or a fork. There are a great number of people who simply won't vote because there is no-one or no party that they trust or that aligns with their wishes - that, and they also feel that nothing will change anyway, so what is the point in voting....... There are others, like myself, who believe that everyone should exercise their right to vote as there is no chance of getting any change without voting; plus, you can't really complain if you haven't at least tried to play your part in the democratic process. Within the latter group, there are those who feel the only option open to them is to cast a protest vote, not because they want the extremists to win or be in power, but because they want to PREVENT the other choices from being in power.

The trouble is, FC, that casting a protest vote does very little, firstly as no one takes any notice of them, and secondly it's quite possible the protest votes will let in the extremists. I agree everyone should vote but there are various reasons why people don't.

Yep, you're right, a lot of people think like that. But, the number of people who trust any Politician is infinitesimally small so it's realistic to say that the majority of people vote despite their distrust and loathing of Politicians. So, to me, a protest vote is a sign not of disillusionment but of mental apathy not giving any regard to the fact that nobody cares about protests votes, least of all Politicians, or you can vote for extremists.:dunno::snorky:

A protest vote is often for an extremist, that is the point in question.
The apathy of the candidates put before us force us to vote for the extremists or not vote at all.

I agree, Pete, but the problem is that the person making a protest vote have either become blind or uncaring that they're making things worse. If someone steps on your foot, you shouldn't be voting for an Elephant to come and do the same.:dunno::heehee:

                            So what is the answer??????

                            Nobody votes at all?
At what point of turn out, say 25% do the powers that be get edgy, and bring in the ozzy style of approach?
You vote for the scum, or we lock you up.
                            Democracy, or what?

Even after my many occasions of sitting by the Wildlife pond, or in the Arbour, watching the Sun go down, with a mug of Tea or glass of the Red Stuff, and contemplating the idiosyncrasy's of Humans I have never solved the problem:dunno::scratch::doh::heehee:

But I would rather cast my vote in the hope that the person/Government I'm voting for will do some good along with the guaranteed messes that will happen. While I think that people should vote it's still a free country and so I don't think they must vote. But, just to throw your hands up and sticking your head in the sand and basically saying "to Hell with it all, is basically going to..........
